Foundation for Ensuring Access and Equity

After serving on nonprofit boards that did little more than raise money and host annual conferences, Mr. Wynn founded the Foundation for Ensuring Access and Equity, whose nonprofit purpose is to expand college access for students from underrepresented groups and marginalized communities.

The primary community partner is the Turner Chapel AME Church, where the foundation has access to facilities and the supoprt of volunteers to provide free college and scholarship planning workshops to students and families throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area.

The foundation serves as a recommending organization for the Posse Foundation and Meyerhoff Scholars program, and is partnering with schools and school districts throughout the United States and Bermuda. The foundation is currently implementing Mr. Wynn's College Planning Cohort Model in schools in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas and working with community college students in California.

The work of the foundation is researched-based and research-responsive. The community workshops and College Planning Cohorts are closing the college knowledge gap, increasing college match, expanding scholarship opportunities, and providing students with comprehensive college-bound plans designed to gain admission into the right colleges and to receive the necessary scholarships and institutional aid to avoid or minimize student loan debt.

I am not aware of any church that has developed the comprehensive educational support programs that Mychal and Nina Wynn have established at Turner Chapel AME Church. As a parent, I am in awe of what they have done—academic celebrations, tutoring, SAT/ACT prep, college planning workshops, the annual College Panel Discussion, and college planning cohorts. We have witnessed students who were entering middle school when the Wynns took over leadership and they are now well into their undergraduate studies having been matched to the right colleges, with many of whom having received full college scholarships. Our church can proudly claim 5 Gates Millennium Scholars, 3 Posse Foundation Scholars, and students making up college cohorts on campuses throughout the country. I am overjoyed with the number of college students texting their 'Shout Outs' on youth Sunday from their respective campuses. Our current students have been inspired to enroll into the most rigorous magnet and International Baccalaureate programs, many of whom are ranked at the top of their respective high school classes.
